When I’m traveling, I love to look for local vintage, secondhand, or ethical clothing shops. I was recently in the French capital as part of a three-week trip to Europe and where is there a better spot to shop vintage and secondhand than in Paris?
It’s such a fun way to support small businesses while exploring a new place. For me, shopping vintage and secondhand gives me an opportunity to find a unique piece to take home as a memory of my trip AND continue building a wardrobe I love. It’s so much more chic than the dinky trinkets I used to bring home that inevitably ended up in the trash.
Sharing a few of my recommended secondhand and vintage shops to try in Paris. Save for your next trip!
Where to shop secondhand and vintage in Paris
Thanx God I’m a V.I.P.
📍12 Rue de Lancry, 75010 Paris
The store is beautifully curated and features a coffee shop inside. Consider stopping in first thing for your caffeine fix or midway through your shopping day for a pick-me-up. This is the spot to shop for high-end vintage, featuring a selection of impeccable pieces from houses like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, YSL, Prada, and Dior. Not in your budget? They also curate a selection of low-priced pieces chosen for their quality.
Stop in for: A classic vintage experience featuring high-end designers.
Nuovo Paris
📍130 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris
Nuovo is a relatively new shop on the scene and specializes in vintage pieces from the 90s and 2000s from designers like Miss Sixty, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Mugler, Diesel, and Versace. I would classify the Nuovo shopper as someone who dresses sexy and extravagant with some edge and looks for pieces at more affordable prices. This is the spot to shop if you want a trendy Y2K/Gen Z-esque aesthetic without shopping fast fashion.
Stop in for: A supremely curated selection of trendy vintage so you don’t have to spend hours hunting.
BIS Boutique Solidaire
📍Multiple locations
BIS is a very cool concept focused on circularity. They partner with agencies throughout France to collect unused clothing and have a sorting facility where they parse through two million garments per year (!!!). Items that are high quality make it into their multiple stores, while items that are too damaged to be sold are sent to a family-owned small business to be sorted for recycling, resulting in less than 5% final waste. The store I stopped into in Le Marais was super well organized by colour and had a mix of trendy and timeless items. I left with a knit polo and a scarf for 17 euros in total!
Stop in for: Incredible deals on contemporary fashion while supporting an ethically-minded business model.
Brut Archives + Universal Surplus
📍3 Rue Réaumur, 75003 Paris
Brut curates vintage workwear and military items, along with classic American designers. It also features its own line, including new garments inspired by vintage pieces and reworked vintage for more modern fits and styles.
In the basement of Brut Archives is its sister company, Universal Surplus, which curates military surplus clothing mainly from the U.S., French, and British armies’ supply. It has a great selection of tailored military pants, vintage cargos, classic Breton tops, and authentic bomber jackets. Some American and French vintage workwear is also in the mix. My husband ended up walking out with pants from Brut and a vintage Czech Republic sailor shirt.
Stop in for: Sourcing classic workwear and one of a kind pieces.
